Love yoga and want to take it to the next level? Or perhaps you are new to yoga and love the idea of aerial hammock yoga classes? If either is true, this is the perfect retreat for you and such a wonderful way to learn it in beautiful India! With the help of gravity, you can stretch and strengthen without stressing your joints or compressing your vertebrae. Hang upside down and feel the inversion as well as feeling like flying or floating. This type of yoga gives you a beautiful anti-gravity feeling in your body!
Set in the beautiful Himachal Pradesh area of the Himalayan mountains, the teaching of this spectacular aerial hammock yoga class is set to a very high standard. The teacher is sure to answer questions and understand the core principles of this aerial yoga training. You are provided with excellent vegetarian food and will meet great new friends to last a lifetime.
Although this style of yoga originated in New York, it has worked its way back to India, where Yoga was first born. Practiced all over the world, aerial yoga provides special benefits and combines traditional mat yoga with a dance-like movement suspended in soft fabric hammocks.
The Hammock
This special type of hammock can support up to 300 kilos of weight! They consist of carabiners, 2 support chains, 1 webbing strap and silk material. The hammock can hang from a supported ceiling inside or from trees outside. The 2 support chains hang down to lower the hammock to around 1 metre from the ground (depending on the user’s height or preference).
The hammock supports your hips, particularly for forward bends and backbends. It acts like a swing and is, therefore, your base for many Asana variations as well as warm-ups moves. Mat asanas that you may find hard, usually, will be easier to do in the air. For example, a hammock can be looped around one foot as you stand on the other for versions of standing big toe pose and king dancer. These applications are similar to an Iyengar-style rope wall. And, for Savasana, the hammock wraps around your entire body like a cocoon.
